Cincinnati Bell Wireless will end Lifeline July 1

Cincinnati Bell Wireless plans to stop offering Lifeline discounted service effective July 1, 2014. Below is the anticipated impact on customers depending on their rate plan type:

Lifeline plans with monthly service fees: (ex. $25 Unlimited Talk and Text)

Customers can remain on their existing i-wireless Lifeline rate plan until July 1, 2014, but effective immediately, you may no longer select other Cincinnati Bell i-wireless Lifeline plans. Although you can continue to purchase standard Cincinnati Bell i-wireless service, you cannot receive Lifeline discounted service from Cincinnati Bell i-wireless as of July 1, 2014.

If you would like to remain a Cincinnati Bell i-wireless customer we will continue to honor your current plan’s price until at least October 1, 2014, unless you change rate plans before that date. Prior to the end of this promotional period Cincinnati Bell will notify you of the new price that will apply to your plan. You do not need to contact Cincinnati Bell i-wireless to take advantage of this promotional pricing; you will be automatically converted to this plan on July 1, 2014.

Customers may change to a different standard Cincinnati Bell i-wireless rate plan at any time; however, if you do so before the end of the promotional period, you will lose any promotional discounts. Once you change plans, you may not return to your current plan or change to a different Cincinnati Bell i-wireless Lifeline rate plan.

Customers on Connect Plans: (Free 250 min.)

Customers can remain on their existing i-wireless Lifeline rate plan until July 1, 2014, but effective immediately, changes to other Cincinnati Bell i-wireless Lifeline plans are not permitted. Although you can continue to purchase standard Cincinnati Bell i-wireless service, you cannot receive Lifeline discounted service from Cincinnati Bell i-wireless as of July 1, 2014.

Connect Plan accounts will be converted to the Simply 10 pay-per-use rate plan effective July 1, 2014 unless you contact Cincinnati Bell to change to a different rate plan or discontinue service before that time. The Simply 10 plan features 10¢ per minute calls and 20¢ per text message sent or received. You do not need to contact Cincinnati Bell if you would like to remain on the Simply 10 plan, but you must have a balance on your account in order to place calls beginning July 1, 2014.

Customers may change to a standard Cincinnati Bell i-wireless rate plan at any time, but once you change plans you may not return to your current Lifeline plan or change to a different Cincinnati Bell i-wireless Lifeline rate plan.

Lifeline Wireless Program FAQs

Why is Cincinnati Bell ending Lifeline?

Participation in the Lifeline program requires a significant amount of resources from participating providers. Cincinnati Bell has evaluated the costs and benefits of on-going participation and has concluded that it is no longer in the company’s best interest to remain in the Lifeline program.

What if I change my Lifeline plan?

After April 15, 2014, if you are an i-wireless Lifeline customer and you change your current rate plan you will only be offered standard i-wireless rates and you will not be able to go back to your current or any other i-wireless Lifeline plan.

What if I change my Lifeline phone number?

There is no change from the normal process for phone number changes. You may keep your plan as you do now for a phone number change.

Can I still activate service on a Lifeline plan?

Activations with Lifeline applications will be accepted by Cincinnati Bell though April 14, 2014. As of April 15, 2014, Cincinnati Bell will no longer support new Lifeline activations or migrations to Lifeline.

As a Lifeline customer, is there anything I need to do?

You will have received notice of this change via text message and letter on April 15, 2014 and again on June 1, 2014. This notification will explain the change to the program as well as your options to continue Lifeline with another provider. If you are not on a Connect Plan you will not see a change in rates until at least October 1, 2014.

Does this affect my CBT Lifeline?

No, this only affects i-wireless Lifeline.
